“2022 was a strong year for AMD as we delivered best-in-class growth and record revenue despite the weak PC environment in the second half of the year,” said AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su. “We accelerated our data center momentum and closed our strategic acquisition of Xilinx, significantly diversifying our business and strengthening our financial model. Although the demand environment is mixed, we are confident in our ability to gain market share in 2023 and deliver long-term growth based on our differentiated product portfolio.”

(*) In this earnings press release, in addition to GAAP financial results, AMD has provided non-GAAP financial measures including non-GAAP gross profit, non-GAAP operating expenses, non-GAAP operating income, non-GAAP net income, non-GAAP diluted earnings per share. AMD uses a normalized tax rate in its computation of the non-GAAP income tax provision to provide better consistency across the reporting periods. For fiscal 2022, AMD uses a non-GAAP tax rate of 13{ac23b82de22bd478cde2a3afa9e55fd5f696f5668b46466ac4c8be2ee1b69550}, which excludes the tax impact of pre-tax non-GAAP adjustments. AMD also provided adjusted EBITDA and free cash flow as supplemental non-GAAP measures of its performance. These items are defined in the footnotes to the selected corporate data tables provided at the end of this earnings press release. In addition, AMD provided pro forma revenue for the year ended December 31, 2022 and December 25, 2021 which include unaudited Xilinx pre-acquisition revenue from January 2, 2022 to February 13, 2022 and for the twelve months ended January 1, 2022, respectively, as supplemental information. AMD is providing these financial measures because it believes this non-GAAP presentation makes it easier for investors to compare its operating results for current and historical periods and also because AMD believes it assists investors in comparing AMD’s performance across reporting periods on a consistent basis by excluding items that it does not believe are indicative of its core operating performance and for the other reasons described in the footnotes to the selected data tables. The non-GAAP financial measures disclosed in this earnings press release should be viewed in addition to and not as a substitute for or superior to AMD’s reported results prepared in accordance with GAAP and should be read only in conjunction with AMD’s Consolidated Financial Statements prepared in accordance with GAAP. These non-GAAP financial measures referenced are reconciled to their most directly comparable GAAP financial measures in the data tables in this earnings press release. This earnings press release also contains forward-looking non-GAAP gross margin concerning AMD’s financial outlook, which is based on current expectations as of January 31, 2023 and assumptions and beliefs that involve numerous risks and uncertainties. AMD undertakes no intent or obligation to publicly update or revise its outlook statements as a result of new information, future events or otherwise, except as may be required by law.

Adjusted EBITDA for the Company is determined by adjusting GAAP net income for interest expense, other income (expense), net, income tax provision (benefit), equity income in investee, stock-based compensation, depreciation and amortization expense and acquisition-related costs. The Company also included amortization of acquired intangible assets for the three months and year ended December 31, 2022. The Company calculates and presents Adjusted EBITDA because management believes it is of importance to investors and lenders in relation to its overall capital structure and its ability to borrow additional funds. In addition, the Company presents Adjusted EBITDA because it believes this measure assists investors in comparing its performance across reporting periods on a consistent basis by excluding items that the Company does not believe are indicative of its core operating performance. The Company’s calculation of Adjusted EBITDA may or may not be consistent with the calculation of this measure by other companies in the same industry. Investors should not view Adjusted EBITDA as an alternative to the GAAP operating measure of income or GAAP liquidity measures of cash flows from operating, investing and financing activities. In addition, Adjusted EBITDA does not take into account changes in certain assets and liabilities that can affect cash flows.

The Company also presents free cash flow as a supplemental Non-GAAP measure of its performance. Free cash flow is determined by adjusting GAAP net cash provided by operating activities for capital expenditures, and free cash flow margin {ac23b82de22bd478cde2a3afa9e55fd5f696f5668b46466ac4c8be2ee1b69550} is free cash flow expressed as a percentage of the Company’s net revenue. The Company calculates and communicates free cash flow in the financial earnings press release because management believes it is of importance to investors to understand the nature of these cash flows. The Company’s calculation of free cash flow may or may not be consistent with the calculation of this measure by other companies in the same industry. Investors should not view free cash flow as an alternative to GAAP liquidity measures of cash flows from operating activities.

Educational tourism is one of the fastest growing segments of the broader tourism industry according to the World Tourism Organization. 6.1 million higher education students studied abroad in 2019, up from just 2 million in 2000. That figure is expected to rise to 8 million by 2030.

Unsurprisingly, China and India, with their vast populations, were among the top countries in terms of number of citizens studying abroad. Germany, South Korea, and Nigeria also had a noteworthy number of students studying in other countries.

The benefits of studying in one of the 15 most advanced countries in education are many, including the opportunity to get a better education in a particular field than might be possible back home. Foreign students also gain the benefits of living in another culture, possibly learning a new language, and building their confidence and independence.

Before we dive into the countdown of the 15 most advanced countries in education we asked OpenAI’s artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT what some of the prominent questions people have regarding studying abroad. The top six questions and their corresponding answers are listed below.

Question 1: Why study abroad?

ChatGPT’s Answer: There are many benefits to studying abroad, including the opportunity to:

  1. Learn about a new culture: Studying abroad allows you to immerse yourself in a new culture and learn about the customs, traditions, and ways of life in another country.

  2. Improve your language skills: Studying abroad is an excellent opportunity to improve your language skills, whether you are learning a new language or improving your proficiency in a language you already know.

  3. Enhance your education: Studying abroad exposes you to new ideas and perspectives, which can enrich your educational experience and help you to think more critically and creatively.

  4. Build your resume: Employers often view study abroad experience as a valuable asset, as it demonstrates your ability to adapt to new situations, navigate unfamiliar environments, and work with people from diverse backgrounds.

  5. Make new friends: Studying abroad provides the opportunity to meet and form relationships with people from different cultures and backgrounds. These relationships can be some of the most rewarding and lasting friendships you will make.

Question 2: How do I choose a study abroad program?

ChatGPT’s Answer: Here are some things to consider when evaluating study abroad programs:

  1. Location: Think about where you want to study abroad and what kind of environment you want to be in. Do you want to study in a big city or a small town? In a developed country or a developing country? Near the coast or in the mountains?

  2. Program type: Consider whether you want to study at a foreign university, participate in a cultural exchange program, or enroll in a study abroad program through your home university. Each type of program has its own advantages and disadvantages, so think about what will be the best fit for you.

  3. Academic focus: Look for a program that aligns with your academic interests and goals. If you’re studying a specific subject, make sure the program you choose offers coursework in that area.

  4. Housing and accommodations: Consider where you will be living during your study abroad experience. Will you be staying with a host family, in a dorm, or in an apartment?

  5. Cost: Compare the costs of different programs to see which ones fit within your budget. Don’t forget to factor in travel expenses, housing costs, and other living expenses.

  6. Support and resources: Consider whether the program provides support services such as academic advising, health and safety resources, and cultural orientation.

Question 3: How do I apply for a study abroad program?

ChatGPT’s Answer: Here are some steps you can follow to apply for a study abroad program:

  1. Research study abroad programs: Start by researching study abroad programs that match your interests and academic goals. Consider factors such as location, duration, cost, and the types of courses and activities offered.

  2. Check eligibility requirements: Make sure you meet the eligibility requirements for the study abroad program you are interested in. These requirements may vary depending on the program, and may include things like GPA requirements, language proficiency, and enrollment status.

  3. Gather necessary documents: Start gathering the necessary documents for your application, such as transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement. You may also need to provide a copy of your passport or other identification documents.

  4. Complete the application: Follow the instructions provided by the study abroad program to complete the application process. This may involve filling out an online application form, submitting supporting documents, and paying any applicable fees.

  5. Attend an interview: Some study abroad programs may require you to attend an interview as part of the application process. This may be an in-person interview or a virtual interview, depending on the program.

  6. Wait for a decision: After you have completed the application process, you will need to wait for a decision from the study abroad program. This may take several weeks or longer, depending on the program.

  7. Accept or decline the offer: If you are accepted into the study abroad program, you will need to accept or decline the offer. If you accept the offer, you will need to follow the next steps provided by the program to complete the enrollment process.

Question 4: How do I prepare for studying abroad?

ChatGPT’s Answer: Here are some steps you can take to prepare for studying abroad:

  1. Research your destination: Learn as much as you can about the country and culture where you will be studying. This can help you better understand what to expect and how to adjust to your new environment.

  2. Learn the language: If you will be studying in a country where the primary language is different from your own, consider taking language classes or learning some basic phrases to help you communicate while abroad.

  3. Get your documents in order: Make sure you have all the necessary documents, such as your passport and visas, in order before you leave. You may also need to obtain other documents, such as a student visa or a letter of acceptance from your host institution.

  4. Pack wisely: Make a list of everything you need to bring with you and consider the climate and culture of your destination. Pack light and only bring the essentials, as you may have limited space and may need to carry your luggage with you while traveling.

  5. Make travel arrangements: Book your flights and any other transportation you will need to get to and from your destination. You may also want to consider making arrangements for accommodations, such as a hostel or apartment, before you arrive.

  6. Notify your bank and credit card companies: Let your bank and credit card companies know that you will be traveling abroad so they don’t flag your account for suspicious activity. Consider getting a travel credit card or opening a bank account in the country where you will be studying.

  7. Get travel insurance: Consider getting travel insurance to protect yourself in case of any unexpected events, such as lost luggage or medical emergencies.

  8. Research safety guidelines: Familiarize yourself with safety guidelines and emergency procedures for your destination. Consider getting a personal safety device or downloading a safety app to help you stay safe while abroad.

Question 5: How do I finance my study abroad experience?

ChatGPT’s Answer: There are several ways you can finance your study abroad experience, including:

  1. Scholarships: Many study abroad programs offer scholarships or grants to help students cover the costs of their experience. You can search online or ask your study abroad office for information about available scholarships.
