MSU mourns the death of former dean Dr. William “Bill” Whitaker

The Morehead Condition College community mourns the decline of former professor and dean of MSU’s Faculty of Company, Dr. William “Bill” Whitaker (Class of 1964), who passed absent July 11, 2022. He was 78 yrs outdated.

Born February 27, 1944, in Maysville, Kentucky, he was the son of the late William M., Jr. and Hazel Hicks Whitaker.

Whitaker was a 1961 graduate of the Breckinridge Schooling University. He graduated with large difference with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Arithmetic from Morehead State University in 1964. Continuing his training at the College of Kentucky, Whitaker concluded an MBA and Ph.D. in economics and business enterprise. Upon graduating cum laude in the spring of 1968, he accepted a school posture at Florida Condition College in the University of Enterprise. Through his 40-12 months job in bigger education, he served as a faculty member at multiple colleges and universities.

At MSU, Whitaker served as the vice president of academic affairs and as a professor and dean in MSU’s School of Company from 1975-89. As dean, he served broaden the University of Enterprise enrollment by extra than 50%, facilitated the growth of numerous new classes and systems, and improved pupil retention and advising.

Whitaker still left an indelible perception on many learners and colleagues in his many roles. One of these was previous MSU Professor Dr. Will McIntosh. McIntosh, a resident of San Antonio, Texas, is the world-wide head of research for USAA Real Estate. Whitaker served as McIntosh’s mentor through his profession. To honor the effects he experienced on his instruction and career, McIntosh set up a $10,000 scholarship in Whitaker’s honor in 2018.

The Whitaker relatives fully commited to increasing the scholarship to the endowment level. Many thanks to Bill and Patricia Whitaker’s guidance and numerous spouse and children and close friends, the Dr. William M. Whitaker III Scholarship Endowment is now valued at above $25,000. This endowment will be invested and scholarships will be awarded in Whitaker’s memory for generations to come.

“I am humbled by the generous donations produced in my honor,” Whitaker reported in an job interview just before his passing. “I am thrilled that this economic aid will assistance MSU students in the Higher education of Business and Technological innovation.”

Scholarship recipients shall be junior or senior pupils majoring in finance with a bare minimum cumulative grade stage normal of 3. or earlier mentioned. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Dorton Whitaker (Class of 1978, 1983), and his 5 young children: sons Will (Course of 1991), Rob (Class of 1991), Jim (Class of 1995) and Brandon (Class of 2003), and daughter Destinee (Class of 2000). The Whitakers are a family members of Eagles and are loyal supporters of Morehead Point out University.
